| Overview |
The System (더 시스템 Deo Siseutem) and its Quests (퀘스트 Kweseuteu) are the driving force behind the series, prompting Suhyeon Kim to initially involve himself in the 4-school turf war in Gangbuk.
Overall Information
Nothing is currently known about the origins of the Quest system, though there is a human behind the voice that gave Quests to Suhyeon and Yun Jo, someone who was once in their position before becoming part of the Quest System themselves.
The System manifests as a holographic-style projection that questers can see and interact with. The earliest example of this is the window that appears in front of Suhyeon Kim in Episode 1. These projections aren't limited to Quest notifications or progress updates; they are also used for displaying a person's stats, showcasing the abilities of the Camera card,[1] or, for example, allowing physical interaction, such as holding and manipulating the projections like real cards.
Additionally, the System notifies questers about important information regarding themselves and their crew members, such as warnings about a crew mate in danger, notifications when one is about to level up, or details about how many uses remain for a particular card.
Quests
Quests can range from social interactions to combat-oriented goals, and are at least partially influenced by the user's current circumstances.[2] The 3 Quest types are divided into: Main, Side, and Level Up Quests, and occasionally, a choice is given between multiple different Quest routes with varying degrees of difficulty and rewards earned. Main Quests must be completed without fail, or else the user will immediately forfeit all of their accumulated rewards from the system, and Quest windows will no longer appear. The Side Quests offered can be attempted at the user's discretion without the threat of losing access to the System, and the same appears to be true for Level Up Quests, although it's never stated directly as Suhyeon had no good reason to ignore them.
Cards
The reward for Quest completion is always some sort of Card, with more difficult objectives giving out higher tiered cards, ranked from: Bronze < Silver < Gold < Platinum < Diamond < Master < Challenger. Notably, there still hasn't been any opportunity for Suhyeon (or Yun) to earn a Challenger card, and the only concept we have of what such a reward might be is the "living" Challenger Card that seemingly gives out these Quests, so it's hard to imagine what kind of power one would grant the user.
Stats
The System measures individuals across five core parameters: Strength, Speed, Potential, Intelligence, and Endurance. These are displayed through a holographic stat window and ranked alphabetically, following a gacha-game-style tier system that ranges from F at the lowest to Immeasurable at the highest. Stats can be viewed on others using the Platinum Card "Peek" (훔쳐보기), though the card fails if the target's stats are far above the user's, and the stat window's own measurement ceiling has expanded over the course of the series as stronger characters appeared.
The stat system is central to how combat works in QUESTISM: it provides clear, quantifiable expectations for fights, makes power gaps visible at a glance, and gives the audience a framework for understanding upsets when characters win despite being out-statted. Stats are not the whole picture, however, as cards, combat sense, and matchup advantages can all override raw numbers.
For full breakdowns of each stat category, the complete tier list, and detailed rankings, see the main Stats article.
Growth Stages
Characters in QUESTISM can grow through three sequential stages tied to their Potential stat. Each stage provides a stat boost and grants exclusive cards. For a full breakdown of the third stage and its cards, see the Mastery tab.
Awakening
Awakening is a phenomenon that occurs when a character is overwhelmed or on the verge of defeat in battle but becomes filled with unwavering resolve, first demonstrated by Hyeondong Lee.[3] Upon Awakening, all stats except Intelligence and Potential increase, and the character receives an exclusive card.[Note 1]
Awakening was originally designed as something that doesn't happen easily.[4][Note 2] Despite this, by the end of Part 2's final arc, only 5 out of 24 West Gangbuk executives had not Awakened (Jihyeok Jang, Hakjin Ju, Jingu Oh, Dong-u Wang, and Changgyu Min), making it considerably more common than originally implied. Awakening is a prerequisite for both Ascension and the Path to Mastery.
Ascension
Ascension is the stage that follows Awakening, first hinted at by the Challenger Card and later revealed by Cheonhak Yang.[5] It provides a massive boost in stats, so much so that Cheonhak, whose average stats were below SS, rapidly rose to an average of SSR with his Endurance hitting UR. Characters who Ascend also gain access to powerful Ascension cards. Yun Jo has demonstrated that it's also possible to forcibly trigger Ascension using the Diamond Card Forced Ascension, which produces even greater stat increases than normal Ascension but does not grant an Ascension card.[Card 1]
As of the series' end, all executives up to No. 10 at West Gangbuk High have Ascended except for Eunhyeong Ji. Meanwhile for North Gangbuk High, the same is true for its top 10 executives besides Seonu Ha.
Path to Mastery
The third and final growth stage, available only to certain individuals. For the full breakdown of this stage, its relationship to Lookism's Mastery concept, and all known Mastery cards, see the Mastery tab.

- Brainwashed - Unconditionally obey the orders of the person who brainwashed you.[9]
